NEW RELEASE - 268 pages. A David Goulet Novel set on the island of Samoa published by Kanu Culture in digital format.
"Inspired from an understanding of the rehabilitative powers outrigger canoeing has upon indigenous Pacific islander youth searching for reconnection with their culture, this novel is very probably the first of its kind which portrays the power of an activity which transcends sport" Steve West
David Goulet
David Goulet is a Canadian voyageur who spent several formative years as a volunteer in Samoa where he was introduced to outrigger canoeing, Polynesian culture, and his future wife: Tina.
David helped organise and coach a sprint racing team for disabled paddlers, culminating in their participation in the 1998 World Sprints in Fiji. They were one of the first disabled teams to compete against abled-bodied competition in an international sporting event.
Fast forward to today where David is a freelance writer and creative dynamo. He lives in Toronto with Tina and their two children: Leah Moana and Justin Manu. He still dreams of the blue horizons of the South Pacific.
"I wrote this novel as a way of capturing some of my experiences as a volunteer in Samoa. Perhaps I was inspired to be a 'teller of tales' after sleeping one night on the tomb of Robert Louis Stevenson that rests atop Mt. Vaea. Like the characters in this story, I see the Samoan people navigating the big waters of change, facing waves that threaten to overwhelm the canoe. But when a team pulls together, believes in each other, and has faith in the stars...they can overcome the storm. That's the message of this book and my hope for the young people of the world."
